Flash vs HTML

HTML or HyperText Markup Language is computer code that is used to tell Internet browsers how to display websites, which can be seen by anyone connected to the Internet. The code looks a little like this.
Example of HTML code

Html above produces a page like this.

The code mainly tells the browser how to present the site, the colour, size and font of the text.

However Flash based sites can be more interactive making it easier than ever to include mutlimedias' into websites like moving images, movies or audio files. It has previously been a concern that flash based sites are hard for search engines to read as the "spiders" that crawl web sites don't understand their coding. However the sites that I build in Flash also produce a html version behind the scenes that the Spiders can read and therefore the site can be listed correctly by the search engine.

So at the end of the day it's a personal choice. If you are a photographer wanting to showcase your work then perhaps I would go for the Flash site, however if your site is mainly going to be text based with information for your customers then HTML may be the way to go.

Web Design Options.

Websites come in many different shapes, layouts and colours. Most sites will have similar layout components like headers, footers, menus and an area for the main content. The main area can also be laid out in different formats, either using columns or boxes / tables. For example this site is laid out in 4 columns.

For the web design I will need you to either write the sections of content yourself or provide me with a range of your own leaflets, brochure, images etc. You obviously know more about your business than I do. So it is better if you have written the content, although I may edit it slightly for the website. Please ensure all the writing is your own work and not taken from any other site as this could potentially raise legality issues.

If you require logo design or graphics / photos taken for your site, then there will be an additional charge of £10 per hour as this can be time consuming work. However this charge is only for additional work. I consider cropping and resizing of any images that you provide to be part of the web design.
