SEO (or Search Engine Optimisation) is a selection of techniques, which can be applied to a website to increase the chances of your site being found through search engines like Google and Bing, which are directories of lots of sites, and they use little robot files which search out web-pages. Using complex algorithms, they decide how your site relates to keywords (the words entered into the search engine).
When they carry out a search, most people will normally only look on the first couple of pages of results, of which there are usually many. Hence the need to make your site as search engine-friendly as possible in order to appear in these pages.
SEO is not an exact science - no company can guarantee that they can get you the no.1 slot. Google and other the other sites are secretitve about how they rates sites, so SEO consultants can only use common sense and a bit of knowledge about what seems to work at the time.
During the design process of your site, I include good practice, basic SEO techniques, which will help your chances of getting better positioning.
There are a number of companies out there who offer full SEO services. This service can run into hundreds of pounds per month. The cost reflects the amount of time that goes into it. One of the biggest parts of SEO is also the most time-consuming: link building. Google loves sites to have links to it from other sites. Link building is about finding the right sort of sites that will benefit your site, with a link to it.
SEO should be an ongoing activity with your site, constantly getting more links , changing keywords if needed, adding content to your site etc.
For existing sites I offer a a basic SEO or a lite version.
Additional work can also be like link building, finding places to advertise, giving suggestions for places to find new clients, which can also be negotiated; please contact me to discuss further. I charge per hour, thereby allowing me to agree a budget with you upfront.
My aim with the basic SEO is to get your site ready for search engines, and this will make it easier for your clients to find you. I'll also point you in the right direction of how to continue the promoting your site yourself, going onwards.
Now you've got all these clients coming to your site, you want to know, how many, what they're doing and if they're doing what you
want them to i.e. buying your goods or services. One way to do this is to add Google Analytics,
which looks like this,
which you can either use yourself or, alternatively, I can use this data to prepare you a report, which can be altered depending on
your requirements.
As part of this report I will make suggestions to improve or advertise your site. These suggestions. You can act upon these suggestions yourself, or instruct me to. (See the prices page for the cost of the monthly report and additional work.)
